Visit to St. Regis Mission, Akwesasne, New York
During the weekend of August 14โ16, 2026, I visited St. Regis Mission in Akwesasne, New York. Situated on the St. Lawrence River, Akwesasne lies right at the intersection of New York State and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
The mission was founded by French Jesuits in 1755, and its current stone church was completed in 1795. Uniquely, St. Regis falls under three dioceses: Ogdensburg in New York, Alexandria-Cornwall in Ontario, and Valleyfield in Quebec.
Here is a summary of my visit:
- Friday, August 14: Joined parishioners for dinner at the Maple Steak & Ale Restaurant inside the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort.
- Saturday morning, August 15: Led the praying of the rosary in memory of deceased loved ones alongside local parishioners.
- Saturday afternoon, August 15: Took a boat ride across the St. Lawrence River with parishioners to enjoy lunch at the Perch and Paddle Pub in Summerstown, Ontario, followed by celebrating the Vigil Mass at St. Regis Mission later that afternoon.
