American Indian Catholic Outreach (Oklahoma)

June

The American Indian Catholic Outreach attended the Shawnee/ Tecumseh Indian Education Pow Wow. It’s always a pleasure to support our American Indian students and their pride in their culture. The staff was very welcoming to our ministry. They even helped us set up our table and our banner. Our banner depicts a picture of Archbishop Coakley holding a monstrance containing the Holy Eucharist. The banner also has pictures of several saints. Namely, Blessed Stanley Rother, Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, Servant of God Nicholas Black Elk and Servant of God Antonio Inija, an Appalachian Indian martyr. As usual we offer many items concerning the Catholic faith such as bibles and rosaries. It was a great success due to the many people who stopped by to visit and browse the items we had on our table.

July

The American Indian Catholic Outreach attended the Tulsa Indian Club Pow Wow. We weren’t allowed to set up our usual table since vendor spaces had already been filled. However, that didn’t stop us from visiting with those attending the pow wow and speaking with them about the Catholic faith.

August

The month of August was spent preparing a bible study for prisoners at the Eddie Warriors Correctional Center. The Center is part of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and houses women who are preparing to reenter society.
